Gambian winger Abubacarr Ceesay, popularly known as “Yanos”, has joined Finnish top-flight champions Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) on a one-year permanent contract, with an option for an extension.
Ceesay, who developed at Esohna Academy, will begin his professional career in Finland, where he is expected to compete in the Veikkausliiga, the country’s top division.
The move provides the young Gambian winger with an opportunity to continue his development and compete in European football.
KuPS also has a connection with Gambian football, having previously featured former Gambia international midfielder Ebrima Sohna.
Sohna represented the Finnish club during two spells, from 2012 to 2013 and again from 2014 to 2016.
Ceesay’s move adds another Gambian player to the growing number of footballers pursuing professional careers in European leagues.
