Gambian swimmers Sheikh Omar Ndongo and Fatou D. Sabally have completed the 4.5-kilometre Dakar-Gorée open-water swimming competition in Dakar, Senegal.
Ndongo completed the course in 2 hours and 22 minutes, finishing ahead of fellow Gambian participant Sabally, who recorded a time of 2 hours and 36 minutes.
The event tested swimmers over a demanding long-distance open-water course requiring endurance and physical preparation.
Both Gambian swimmers arrived in Dakar ahead of the competition and successfully completed the course.
Their participation provided the two athletes with experience in regional open-water competition and an opportunity to represent The Gambia in an international sporting event.
The successful completion of the 4.5-kilometre course also marked a significant test of their preparation for long-distance swimming, which requires both physical endurance and mental resilience.
