Gambia U16 Teams Win Silver and Bronze at FIBA Zone 2 Tournament

The Gambia’s U16 basketball teams secured silver and bronze medals at the FIBA Zone 2 U16 Tournament in Thiès, Senegal, with the female team finishing runners-up and the male team claiming third place.

The Gambia U16 men’s team won the bronze medal after defeating Mauritania in the third-place playoff.

The young Gambian side showed determination and resilience to overcome their regional rivals and finish among the tournament’s top three teams.

The Gambia’s U16 women’s team, meanwhile, secured the silver medal after losing to hosts Senegal in the final.

Their run to the final provided another strong showing for Gambian youth basketball at the regional level.

Both teams competed against some of the leading young basketball talents in Zone 2, gaining valuable international experience during the tournament.

The medal haul represents a positive result for Gambian basketball and highlights the potential of the country’s emerging generation of players.

The performances are also expected to provide a foundation for continued development as the young athletes progress in their basketball careers.
