The Gambia’s U-17 Scorplings held hosts Senegal to a goalless draw in a top-of-the-table clash on Matchday Three of the WAFU-A U-17 AFCON qualifying tournament at Stade Lat Dior in Thiès on Sunday.
The Scorplings produced a disciplined performance throughout the encounter, frustrating the hosts and limiting Senegal to few clear-cut chances.
Gambia goalkeeper Vanou Gomez and defender Faburama Jaiteh were outstanding at the back, playing key roles in keeping the Senegalese attack at bay.
The Gambian side also created opportunities, with Mamadi Camara, Alieu Saine and Omar Badjie coming close to breaking the deadlock.
However, neither side could find the decisive goal as the match ended 0-0.
The draw saw The Gambia finish second in Group A, level on points with Senegal, who topped the group on goal difference.
Coach Yahya Manneh and his charges have now reached the WAFU-A U-17 semi-finals unbeaten, becoming the first Gambian U-17 side to achieve the feat, according to tournament records.
