The Gambia Karate Federation national team is set to represent the country at the sixth edition of the Karate Championships of Western Africa 1, scheduled for 17–23 August 2026 in Conakry, Guinea.
The Gambian delegation will compete in both Kata and Kumite disciplines, with Edrisa Jallow and Alieu Conteh representing the country in men’s Kata, while Emmanuel Mendy and Fatou Nyang will compete in Kumite.
The team will be led by National Kumite Coach Mbaye Nyang, with support from the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC).
The delegation will also include technical officials led by Technical Director Sensei Pateh Jobe.
Gambian referees are expected to undergo theoretical and practical examinations conducted by the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) in both Kata and Kumite, providing an opportunity to strengthen their officiating skills and meet regional standards.
The Gambia Karate Federation said the championship would provide its athletes with valuable regional exposure while contributing to the development of karate and officiating standards in the country.
The delegation travels to Conakry hoping to build on The Gambia’s impressive eight-medal performance at the Senegal Open and represent the country with discipline, determination and sportsmanship.
