The Principal Magistrate of the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court, Ms. M.S. Jallow, on Tuesday remanded four accused persons to Mile II Central Prison after they appeared before the court on charges including public disorder, common nuisance and dangerous driving.
The accused persons — Modou Samba Jallow, Abdul Aziz Njie, Hadim Manneh and Gassan Abdoul Azim — are facing four criminal charges under the Public Order Act, Criminal Code and Motor Traffic Act, 2009.
The prosecution alleges that the accused persons engaged in conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and used abusive language at Brusubi in the West Coast Region on 28 June 2026.
They are also accused of committing common nuisance by allegedly obstructing public movement and causing annoyance, danger and inconvenience to members of the public.
Two of the charges relate to dangerous driving. Hadim Manneh is accused of driving a motor vehicle with registration number KM 0729F in a dangerous manner through alleged stunt driving, while Gassan Abdoul Azim is accused of similarly driving motor vehicle registration number KM 8272F in a manner likely to endanger others.
Representing the Inspector General of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police Buteh Sawaneh opposed bail, saying police investigations were still ongoing.
He told the court that dangerous driving, popularly known as “drifting”, had become increasingly common in Brusubi and urged the court to remand the accused persons to protect public safety.
Defence counsel M.L. Ceesay applied for bail, arguing that the offences were bailable under the Criminal Procedure Code.
However, Magistrate Jallow rejected the bail application and ordered that the accused persons remain in custody at Mile II Central Prison pending further hearing.
The case has been adjourned to 6 July 2026 for continuation.
