The leader and Secretary General of APP-Sobeyaa, Essa Mbye Faal, is set to join the National People’s Party (NPP)-led alliance ahead of Gambia’s 5th December presidential election, APP-Sobeyaa’s sources revealed Monday.
In a statement attributed to Amfaal Mbye, Media Secretary of APP-Sobeyaa, the party said the proposed alliance was intended to contribute to national development through its principles and values.
The statement cited the late former Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli as an example of a leader who, after serving for years as a senior civil servant, pursued changes in governance during his presidency.
The party said its program would seek to promote greater political inclusion for Gambians living abroad and deliver what it described as a new, people-centered constitution.
It also outlined measures aimed at addressing the rising cost of living, increasing salaries and improving working conditions for civil servants.
The statement further said the party would seek to restructure the government framework to improve public service delivery.
On the economy, APP-Sobeyaa said it would prioritize the revitalization of agriculture and pursue programmes aimed at achieving food self-sufficiency.
The party also identified health and energy among the sectors it intended to address, including plans to reform the electricity sector.
APP-Sobeyaa had previously confirmed that it was holding discussions with the NPP and other political formations on possible alliances and coalition arrangements ahead of the 2026 presidential election. The party said at the time that any final decision on its political alignment would require approval by its congress.
