Two siblings, Dawda Jobe and Haddijatou Jobe have been remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison after appearing before the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court in connection with separate allegations involving abductions and robberies.
The siblings first appeared before Principal Magistrate Mam Samba Jallow on Monday 5th October 2026, where they were jointly charged with three counts arising from an alleged incident at Yarambamba, Old Yundum, Kombo North, West Coast Region.
The first count accused them of conspiracy to commit felony, contrary to Section 341 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. The prosecution alleged that on 22nd September 2026, they conspired to commit robbery.
On the second count, they were jointly charged with kidnapping or abducting with intent to confine a person, contrary to Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. The charge alleged that they abducted Kodou Gaye with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine her by tying her hands and locking her in a room.
The third count was robbery, contrary to Section 247 and punishable under Section 248(1) of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. The prosecution alleged that the accused threatened Gaye with a knife and robbed her of an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at D140,000.
Chief Inspector Kemo Y. Manneh appeared for the Inspector General of Police, while the accused persons were represented by lawyer J. Jobarteh. The charges were read to the accused persons in English and interpreted into Wollof, which they chose to speak. Both pleaded “not guilty” to all three counts.
Prosecutor Manneh told the court that the third count carries a possible sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment if the accused are convicted, arguing that the Magistrates’ Court did not have jurisdiction to impose such a sentence. He relied on Section 5 of the Criminal Procedure Act 2025 and applied under Section 72 of the same Act, together with Legal Notice Number 3 of 2009, for the case to be transferred to the High Court.
Counsel J. Jobarteh applied for bail, but the application was overruled on the basis of the court’s lack of jurisdiction.
Magistrate Jallow subsequently ordered the case to be transferred to the High Court and directed that both accused persons be remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison pending their appearance before the High Court.
Meanwhile, the same siblings appeared again before Magistrate Jallow on Wednesday, 7th October 2026, in a separate complaint involving another alleged abduction and robbery.
On that occasion, they had no legal representation and were again jointly charged with three counts. The prosecution alleged that on 21st July 2026, at Old Yundum, Kombo North, they conspired to commit robbery, abducted Aisha Jabbie by tying her hands and locking her in a room, and threatened her with a hammer.
The prosecution further alleged that they robbed Jabbie of an iPhone 14 Pro Max valued at D45,000 and cash amounting to D21,000.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to all three counts. Prosecutor Manneh applied for the matter to be transferred to the High Court, and the application was granted. The siblings were again remanded pending their trial at the High Court.
