The High Court in Banjul presided by Justice Sidi K Jobarteh on Thursday ordered the state to provide a legal representation for the accused Mamadou Bah who was facing murder charge.
In the statement of offence, the accused Mamadou Bah was charged with Murder contrary to Section 155 and punishable under Section 156 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
In the particulars of offence Mamadou Bah was charged on the 15th June 2026 at Fajara in Kanifing Municipality, aforethought, caused the death of Yunusa Mbaye by stabbing him on his neck with a broken bottle thereby committed an offence.
The State was represented by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions E.R Dougan and the accused did not have any legal representation.
When the case was called Justice Sidi K Jobarteh asked the accused if he has a legal representative the accused responded that he has no lawyer.
The accused further said that he intended to hire the services of a lawyer if he can. Moreover, the accused told the court that he was having a lawyer but the lawyer past away.
Justice Sidi K Jobarteh made an order noting that the accused was charged with murder which was a capital offence and that since he could not secure the services of a counsel, the judge ordered the state to provide the accused with legal representation. The Executive Secretary of National Agency for Legal Aid (NALA) was directed to provide Legal representation for the accused on the next adjourned date.
She further ordered that NALA should be served with a copy of the order and the Bill of Indictment before the next adjourned date.
The case was adjourned to Thursday 9th July 2026 for plea taking.
