The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has granted a bail bond of D30,000 to an accused person after his appearance before the court over two-count-charges of house breaking and theft.

Appearing before Magistrate FJ Kamara on Wednesday, 7th October 2026, Sulayman Drammeh faced charges of felony with intent to commit theft.

Assistant Superintendent Touray representing the Inspector General of Police charged Sulayman Drammeh on count one of house breaking, contrary to section 256 of the criminal offense Act 2025.

The particulars of offence stated that Drammeh, on or about 27th September 2026 at Bakoteh in the Kanifing Municipality broke and entered the dwelling house of one Sheihk Njie with intent to commit felony, namely stealing, thereby committing an offense.

On the second count, the particulars of offense revealed that Sulayman Drammeh on or about 27th of September 2026, at Bakoteh in the Kanifing Municipality, stole the following: clothes valued at D5,000, Jewelry valued at D6,000, two wigs valued at D13,000, Bongo musical instrument valued at D1,600, cash amounting to D1,000 with the combined value of all stolen items totaling D26, 600.

The accused pleaded “not guilty” to both counts while responding to the charges read to him in Wollof, a language he said he understood. Then, at that stage, the prosecution sought for an adjournment in efforts to present a witness against the accused in court.

Given the nature of the charges, the magistrate ruled that both offense are bailable, citing reference from section 19 and 24 of the 1996 Constitution of the Gambia. Drammeh accordingly was granted a bail bond of D30,000 for both counts combined. Alternatively, the accused was asked to present a Gambian surety of 30 years of age, bearing a valid national identity card or passport.

The matter was adjourned to Thursday 5th November 2026 at 12:00 PM for continuation.
