Ansumana Jarju, a resident of Brikama, was granted police bail after appearing before Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, charged with removal of major forest produce.

The case was heard before Magistrate K.B. Sambou, where Cadet Inspector M.A. Jallow appeared for the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Cadet Inspector Jallow informed the court that the accused was present and that the case was scheduled for mention and plea taking.

Jarju is facing a single count of removal of major forest produce, contrary to Section 87(3) of the Forest Act, 2018.

According to the particulars of the offence, Jarju allegedly drove a truck with registration number BJL 5276 P, loaded with 16 logs of timber of the ‘bunkung’ variety, on October 5, 2026, in Brikama, West Coast Region.

The charge sheet alleged that he was transporting the timber to Kombo areas without a permit and without paying the required royalty fees to the Department of Forestry.

The charge was read to the accused in English and interpreted into Mandinka, the language he chose to speak, before he accepted the charge.

The court adjourned the case to October 22, 2026, for brief facts and sentencing and Jarju was granted police bail.
