The Brikama Magistrates’ Court has ordered a tenant to vacate his rented house within one month and pay D22,000 in rent arrears and costs.
Magistrate K.B. Sambou issued the judgment on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, in a civil case filed by Ismaila Sawaneh, a businessman from Tawuto Busumbala, against Peter O. Mendy, a security officer from the same community.
The plaintiff had sought an eviction order against the defendant, recovery of D21,000, representing three months’ unpaid rent, and any other order the court deemed appropriate.
According to the statement of claim, the plaintiff said the defendant had failed to pay three months’ rent despite repeated demands.
The claim was read to the defendant in English, the language he elected to use in court, and he accepted liability.
In his ruling, Magistrate Sambou entered judgment in favour of the plaintiff based on the defendant’s admission of liability.
The court ordered the defendant to vacate the plaintiff’s house within one month, failing which he would be forcibly evicted.
The defendant was also ordered to pay the plaintiff D21,000 in outstanding rent and D1,000 in costs, bringing the total amount awarded to D22,000.
