Gambian champions Berewuleng FC suffered a disappointing start to their WAFU Zone A qualifiers campaign after losing 2-0 to AS Bolonta FC at the Independence Stadium on Tuesday.

Berewuleng, representing The Gambia in the regional competition, entered the tournament with high expectations but struggled to overcome a disciplined AS Bolonta side.

The visitors capitalised on their scoring opportunities while maintaining a solid defensive shape to secure all three points and take an early advantage in the group.

Coach Fakebba Saine’s side showed occasional attacking promise but struggled to break down the Bolonta defence and spent long periods chasing the game.

AS Bolonta remained organised at the back and clinical in attack, denying the Gambian champions the opportunity to find a way back into the match.

The defeat leaves Berewuleng with little margin for error in their remaining fixtures, although the tournament is still at an early stage.

Saine and his players will now turn their attention to their next match, where they will seek to address their shortcomings, restore confidence and revive their hopes of progressing in the competition.
