Gambian President Adama Barrow on Thursday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to infrastructure development, describing it as a key pillar of his administration’s development agenda during talks with a delegation from Access Bank Group at the State House in Banjul.

The President expressed his government’s interest in partnering with the bank to finance and implement major infrastructure projects aimed at improving the lives of Gambians.

Leading the delegation, Access Bank Group Chief Executive Officer Roosevelt Ogbonna said the bank is committed to supporting The Gambia’s national development agenda through investments in strategic sectors, including energy, port expansion and other priority infrastructure projects.

He said Access Bank has the capacity to mobilise the financial resources required to support the country’s development priorities and promote inclusive economic growth.

“We are here to stay, and we want to be part of the success story of the Barrow administration by advancing priority projects that directly benefit the Gambian people,” Ogbonna said.

President Barrow described the visit as a demonstration of investor confidence in The Gambia, attributing the growing interest from international investors to the country’s political stability, peace and strategic geographical location.

Access Bank Gambia Board Chairman Dominic Mendy thanked the Gambian government for its continued support since the bank commenced operations in the country.

He noted that the bank’s acquisition of Standard Chartered Bank Gambia had strengthened its corporate presence and expanded its footprint in the Gambian banking sector.

The meeting ended with both sides expressing their commitment to strengthening cooperation in infrastructure financing and institutional development to support the country’s sustainable economic growth.
