Africmed International Hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting medical education and healthcare development in the Gambia by sponsoring white coats for 74 medical students of the University of The Gambia (UTG).
The students, who make up the 23rd cohort of medical students, were officially inducted into the medical profession during a White Coat Ceremony held on Saturday at the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences Conference Room.
Representing Africmed Chief Executive Officer Dr. Omar Jagne, the hospital’s Human Resources and Administrative Manager, Sheikh Ndow, said the sponsorship reflected the institution’s continued commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through investment in future medical professionals.
“Our continuous commitment to supporting the healthcare services of The Gambia is a fundamental ethical obligation to the well-being of our society,” Ndow said.
He explains that Africmed’s philosophy is anchored on the belief that access to quality medical services is essential to improving healthcare outcomes, reducing disparities and promoting a healthier society.
The White Coat Ceremony, a globally recognized tradition in medical education, symbolizes responsibility, professionalism, dedication and the trust placed in future doctors as they begin their professional journey.
Chief Medical Director of the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, urged the students to make effective use of the knowledge and skills acquired during their training, stressing that they would play an important role in strengthening healthcare delivery in the country.
President of the University of The Gambia Medical Students’ Association (UNIGAMSA), Jalamang Jammeh, expressed appreciation to Africmed International Hospital for its continued support and contribution to medical education.
He also commended faculty members for their dedication in nurturing future doctors and assured that the students would uphold the values of the medical profession while using their knowledge to contribute to national development.
The ceremony served as a reminder of the ethical standards, commitment and responsibilities expected of the next generation of healthcare professionals in The Gambia.
