Africmed International Hospital has strengthened its support to the Gambia Police Force (GPF) with the donation of essential medical equipment and supplies to the Police Clinic in Banjul, aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery for officers and their families.
The donation, made on Wednesday at Police Headquarters, comes weeks after Africmed International Hospital provided an ambulance to the facility, further deepening cooperation between the private health institution and the security services.
The items donated include oxygen cylinders, blood glucose monitoring machines, test strips, an oxygen flow meter, a nebulizer, oxygen masks, and a wheelchair. The equipment is expected to improve emergency response capacity and routine healthcare services at the clinic.
The donation was received on behalf of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Seedy Mukhtar Touray by Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Service Support, Kalilu Njie.
AIG Njie expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and significant, noting that it would strengthen healthcare delivery for police personnel and their dependents.
He says the Gambia Police Force values partnerships that contribute to the welfare of its personnel and reaffirms the institution’s commitment to expanding healthcare services through collaboration.
Speaking at the presentation, Managing Director of Africmed International Hospital, Dr. Omar Jagne, says the donation forms part of the hospital’s corporate social responsibility programme aimed at complementing government efforts in the health sector.
He said supporting the Police Clinic was a contribution to national development, noting that security personnel played a critical role in protecting lives and property.
“Our security personnel work tirelessly to safeguard our communities. Supporting their healthcare needs is a way of recognising their service to the nation,” Dr. Jagne said.
He reaffirmed Africmed’s commitment to continued support for the Police Clinic and indicated that further assistance would be provided to address its healthcare needs.
Earlier, Dr. Jagne paid a courtesy call on IGP Seedy Mukhtar Touray, where discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Africmed International Hospital and the Gambia Police Force.
He said the recent ambulance donation marked the beginning of a long-term partnership and commended the head of the Police Clinic, Dr. Secka, for identifying priority needs within the facility.
Inspector General Touray expressed gratitude for both the ambulance and the latest donation, describing them as valuable contributions to improving healthcare services within the Police Clinic.
He also commended Africmed International Hospital for its growing role in supporting the health sector and praised Dr. Jagne’s commitment to public service.
Assistant Inspector General Kalilu Njie also praised the initiative, calling on other private sector actors and philanthropists to support public institutions, particularly in the health sector.
The donation highlights growing public-private collaboration aimed at improving healthcare delivery for essential service providers in The Gambia.
