Africell Gambia on Thursday donated football jerseys and equipment to 25 Nawettan teams in the Greater Banjul Area and other parts of the country ahead of the new Nawettan season.
The donation, which included sets of jerseys and football kits, was presented to representatives of the beneficiary teams at Africell’s customer care hall on Kairaba Avenue.
Among the teams benefiting from the initiative are Tababi FC, Bilbao of New Jeshwang, United Stars, Unicorns and BK Stars, alongside other teams from the Greater Banjul Area, West Coast Region and North Bank Region.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Africell Director of Communications Ronald Senghore said the initiative reflected the company’s longstanding commitment to supporting grassroots football and promoting youth empowerment and social cohesion through sport.
He said football had increasingly become an important platform for promoting The Gambia internationally, while creating opportunities for young people and communities.
“Football has positioned The Gambia on the global map. It has rewritten stories and transformed lives. We want to be part of those who amplify this cause,” Senghore said.
Also speaking, Africell Head of Media and Communications Lamin Mbye said the company had consistently supported grassroots sports, particularly football.
“We have been known to support sports, from grassroots football to sports of all kinds. We want to remain open and responsive whenever people request our support,” Mbye said.
Representatives of the beneficiary teams expressed appreciation to Africell for its continued support to grassroots football.
They said the donation would provide a significant boost to their preparations for the new Nawettan season and help equip players ahead of the competition.
