yr

Scorpions head coach Jonathan McKinstry has announced his squad for The Gambia’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Somalia and Ghana.

The squad includes the return of Sulieman Camara following a series of performances for Slovakian club Slovan Bratislava.

Joseph Colley is the only new player included in the squad, as McKinstry prepares his team for the two qualifying fixtures.

Ibou Touray, Saidou Khan, James Gomez and Muhammed Badamosi have also been recalled, while Alasana Yirajang and Karamba Gassama are among the players selected.

The Gambia will, however, be without winger Yankuba Minteh, who is unavailable due to injury.

The squad also does not include Musa Barrow, The Gambia’s all-time leading goalscorer.

The Scorpions will begin their qualifying campaign against Somalia on 25 September at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

They will then travel to Accra to face Ghana on 29 September.

The matches form part of the qualifying campaign for the 2027 AFCON finals.
