Barrow Receives Chadian Envoy, Reaffirms Commitment To Water Cooperation

President Adama Barrow on Tuesday received Honourable Pascalet Kanabe Marcelin, Special Envoy of Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby, who delivered a special message from the Chadian leader.

During the meeting, the Chadian envoy commended President Barrow’s leadership and highlighted The Gambia’s progress in sustainable development, particularly in the water sector.

Marcelin expressed appreciation for The Gambia’s cooperation and experience in water management, noting Chad’s interest in learning from the country’s achievements.

He conveyed an invitation for President Barrow to attend the Africa Water Forum scheduled for 16 July 2026 in Chad.

The envoy said that although Chad has significant water resources, the country continues to face challenges in ensuring access to safe drinking water for its population.

In response, President Barrow reaffirmed that access to clean water is a fundamental right and said The Gambia remains committed to improving water supply and addressing related challenges.

He encouraged African countries to use platforms such as the Water Forum to exchange experiences and share practical solutions.

President Barrow also stressed the importance of collective action in addressing climate change and environmental challenges, reaffirming The Gambia’s commitment to climate and water-related initiatives.

He assured the Chadian envoy of The Gambia’s participation in the forum and conveyed his greetings to President Mahamat Idriss Deby.

The Gambian leader called for stronger cooperation among African countries, urging them to work together in tackling common development challenges.
