Students of the University of The Gambia (UTG) on Wednesday attended proceedings at the High Court in Banjul in connection with the murder case of their late colleague, Yunusa M’bai.
The case, involving accused Momodou Bah, came before Justice Sidi K. Jobarteh following its transfer from the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court to the High Court.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that the prosecution had not yet filed a bill of indictment, a requirement before the commencement of trial.
The court also noted that the accused was not represented by legal counsel. Justice Jobarteh indicated that the Ministry of Justice would be contacted to facilitate legal representation for the accused, a proposal to which Bah agreed.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to 2 July 2026.
A number of UTG students attended the hearing to follow developments in the case. Some students expressed concern over the death of their colleague and called for the judicial process to proceed without delay.
Police officers were deployed around the High Court premises and nearby areas to monitor the situation.
Students who had reportedly considered staging a demonstration were advised to channel their concerns through a formal petition to the Ministry of Justice.
The death of Yunusa M’bai has attracted significant attention within the university community, with students continuing to monitor developments in the case as it progresses through the courts.
