Kanifing East FC on Tuesday secured promotion to the GFF-APS Wallet First Division League for the first time in the club’s history after defeating Menmar Banjul United 2-1 in a Second Division league match.
The victory, achieved at the Ousman Saho Football Field, confirmed Kanifing East’s place in the country’s top-flight league alongside Colley Stars.
Menmar Banjul United took the lead in the first half through Ousainou Gagigo, but Kanifing East responded strongly after the interval. Alagie Mama Bah equalised before Ma Samba Saine scored the winning goal to complete the comeback.
The result lifted Kanifing East to the top of the league table with one match remaining and guaranteed promotion.
Elsewhere, Baalor Sarr recorded a convincing 4-1 victory over Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) at the Dimphy’s Memorial Football Complex in Fabara Bantang.
Kemo B.S. Ceesay opened the scoring before Ebrima Saidy doubled the lead. Emanuel Joof and Amadou Tamba added further goals in the second half, while Abdoulie Joof scored GAF’s lone goal.
At the Bakau Mini Stadium, Sibanor United FC kept alive their hopes of securing a promotion play-off place with a 2-1 win over Wallidan FC.
Fakebba Saine and Francis Gomez scored for Sibanor United, while Salifu Bayo netted for Wallidan FC.
In another match, already-promoted Colley Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by RS Tallinding FC at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
Ba Alpha Ceesay gave RS Tallinding the lead before Omar Colley equalised for Colley Stars to ensure both sides shared the points.
With one round of matches remaining, Kanifing East FC and Colley Stars have secured promotion to the First Division, while competition for the remaining promotion play-off positions continues.
