PSC Chairman Highlights Effective Service Delivery within Civil Service

Baboucarr A. Suwareh, the chairman of Public Service Commission (PSC) has highlighted that the PSC is mandated by the constitution to facilitate an effective and efficient service delivery within civil service.

He made these remarks recently during meetings with school authorities as part of the Public Service Commission (PSC) members on-going outreach visit to schools in all the Regional Education Directorates in the country.

Suwareh addressed school authorities within Regions two East in Sibanor Area, West in Brikama Area and Region one on issues of mutual concern to the PSC Commission members and their partner institutions like the Ministries of Public Service (MoPS) and Basic and Secondary  Education.

PSC Chairman and team’s visit to the education sector are geared at familiarizing themselves on how authorities are managing public institutions and achievements they register in schools.

“We appoint you, recruit you and discipline you. So after all those process, we feel it necessary to go out in the field and discuss with you about your welfare. The work you are doing is contracted to you so that you can serve the interest of the future leaders of this country,” Suwareh remarked.

Mr. Momodou Bah, Director, Management Service and Inspectorate Division (MSID) at Personnel Management Office (PMO) informed school heads and their Senior Management Team (SMT) at the above mentioned regions that the outreach was organized by PSC in collaboration with their partner institutions like the Ministries of Public Service and Basic and Secondary Education.

He also explained to school authorities that PMO was in charge of the workforce, planning for ministries, department and agencies, while also stating that Scheme of Service (SOS) is under the purview of his division at PMO.

“As your employer, we have come to visit, and interact with you in your natural environment to better understand your experiences, challenges, and perspectives as our employees,” Mr. Bah said.

He explains to school authorities that PMO is structured into seven divisions, while providing a detailed overview of the mandate, roles and responsibilities of each division.

During PSC and partners ten-day outreach visit to schools, the team visited twenty-two (22) educational facilities in the eight educational regions across the country from ECD to Senior Secondary School levels.

The school authorities in regions two east, west and one thanked PSC and team for their laudable visit to their door-step to see the natural environment setting.

The school heads in the said regions mentioned above highlighted some constraints they are facing and also informed the team about some achievements they registered within their schools.

The team assured that actions would be taken on some of the issues raised by the school heads which would be captured in their final report which would be shared among their partner institutions.
