President Barrow Receives USET Delegation Ahead of Convocation Ceremony

President Adama Barrow on Monday received a delegation from the University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) during a courtesy visit at State House ahead of the institution’s second convocation ceremony.

The delegation was led by Vice Chancellor Professor Nazimat T. Surajudeen-Bakinde and accompanied by the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Pierre Gomez.

The meeting reviewed preparations for USET’s second convocation ceremony scheduled for 20 June 2026, during which 951 students are expected to graduate.

Professor Surajudeen-Bakinde said the graduating cohort includes 36 students from the College of Science and Engineering, 668 from the Institute of Technology, and 247 from the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

She said the graduates have been trained to contribute to industrial growth and national socio-economic development.

President Barrow commended the progress of the institution and stressed the importance of addressing the national skills gap through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.

He also expressed appreciation to the Government of Nigeria for its continued cooperation in supporting the institution.

The visit reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education as a key pillar for youth empowerment, skills development and national development.
