Gambian midfielder Abubakr Barry has rejected an offer from an Eastern European club as he pursues a move to a higher level of European football during the summer transfer window.
Sources close to the player said the offer was turned down shortly after it was received, with Barry determined to join a club that matches his long-term sporting ambitions.
The midfielder’s representatives said he remains focused on securing a move that would provide a stronger platform for his development despite attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.
Austrian champions RB Salzburg are among the leading contenders for Barry’s signature and are continuing discussions with Austria Vienna over a possible transfer.
Salzburg’s track record of developing young players and providing a pathway to some of Europe’s top leagues is understood to be a key factor behind the club’s interest in the Gambian international.
Meanwhile, English Championship clubs Stoke City and Oxford United are also monitoring the player’s situation. However, foreign player registration requirements are reported to be complicating potential moves to England.
With the transfer window still open, Barry is expected to remain patient as his representatives evaluate the available options.
