Adama Kanteh scored a late winner as Medina United defeated Bombada 1-0 on Friday to return to the top of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) First Division League standings.

Kanteh struck in the 90th minute at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama to secure a crucial victory for Medina United in a closely contested Week 28 encounter.

The match, played before a large crowd, saw both sides battle for points with significant implications for the league title race.

Bombada enjoyed much of the possession and created several scoring opportunities but were unable to break down a resilient Medina United defence as the teams went into the interval goalless.

With the match appearing destined to end in a draw, Medina United found the breakthrough in the closing stages when Mustapha Jarju set up Kanteh, who calmly converted the decisive goal.

The victory moves Medina United to the summit of the standings on 49 points, two points ahead of second-placed Fortune FC.

Bombada remain on 44 points alongside Gambia Ports Authority as the race for the league title enters its final stages.
