The Gambia and Senegal have signed new cooperation agreements covering energy, border management, digital economy, youth development, technology, culture and tourism, and higher education, research, science and technology.

The agreements were concluded on Saturday at the 4th Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council held in Dakar, co-chaired by Gambian President Adama Barrow and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

The Presidential Council, regarded as the highest decision-making body for bilateral cooperation, is mandated to promote joint action on key priorities affecting citizens of both countries.

In his remarks, President Barrow described the Council as a mandate to consolidate the historic ties between the two nations for present and future generations. He reaffirmed The Gambia’s commitment to implementing all agreed decisions and called for stronger cooperation in defence and security, trade and investment, agriculture, fisheries, transport, health, education, environment, digital transformation, and border management.

President Faye described the Council as a results-driven framework, citing joint infrastructure projects such as the Senegambia Bridge and the Senelec-NAWEC electricity interconnection as examples of successful collaboration. He reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to deeper economic integration, expanded trade, and efforts to combat illegal fishing.

Both leaders agreed on the establishment of joint working groups to coordinate, monitor, and accelerate the implementation of commitments adopted during the session.
