The Basse Magistrate’s Court has convicted three men in two separate livestock theft cases prosecuted by the Gambia Police Force (GPF).
According to the GPF, Tijan Bah and Dawda Kanteh were convicted on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy and cattle theft before Magistrate I. Dibba.
The court fined each of them D20,000 for conspiracy or, in default, one year’s imprisonment. They were also fined D50,000 each for cattle theft or two years’ imprisonment in default.
In addition, the convicts were ordered to pay D75,000 each in compensation to the complainant, with a further two-year prison term to be served consecutively in default of payment.
In a separate case before the same court, Muhammad Nemaga pleaded guilty to killing an animal with intent to steal.
He was fined D50,000 or sentenced to one year’s imprisonment in default and was also ordered to pay D30,000 in compensation, failing which he will serve an additional one-year term.
The convictions were secured by the Basse Prosecution Unit of the Gambia Police Force.
The GPF said the prosecutions reflect its continued commitment to ensuring offenders are brought before the courts and held accountable under the law.
