Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) has formally notified the Gambia Police Force of a planned peaceful demonstration scheduled for 19 June 2026 at the headquarters of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) over ongoing water shortages and electricity outages in the country.
The organisation called on workers, students, market vendors, transport operators, women, youth and other citizens to take part in the demonstration, saying the public has the right to peacefully express concerns and demand accountability.
The group said the protest aims to draw attention to persistent disruptions in essential public services, which it said are affecting households, businesses, schools and daily life nationwide.
GALA stressed that access to electricity and clean water should be treated as basic necessities rather than privileges, adding that continued service interruptions are negatively impacting living conditions and economic activity.
It assured that the planned protest will be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, with full respect for the law, while maintaining its call for urgent solutions to the ongoing challenges.
GALA said the demonstration forms part of a broader civic effort to push for improved public service delivery and sustained advocacy for better living standards.
The group further argued that reliable access to water and electricity is central to dignity and national development, urging authorities to respond with concrete measures to address the situation.
