Nine Gambian footballers have won the Philippines Pro League title with Manila Digger FC after a 1-1 draw against second-placed Taguig FC in a decisive final-day match on Saturday.

The result was enough for Manila Digger FC to secure the championship, capping a strong season for the club and its Gambian contingent.

The Gambian players who featured in the title-winning squad include goalkeeper Omar Njie, defenders Modou Joof, David Sambou and Modou Manneh, midfielders Pa Ousman Gai and Assan Badjie, and forwards Saikouba Ceesay, Mustapha Jallow and Baboucarr Touray.

Manila Digger FC went into the final match knowing that a draw would secure the league title, and they managed to hold their closest challengers to finish top of the standings.

Midfielder Pa Ousman Gai enjoyed a standout season, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 34 goals and winning the Golden Boot award.

Defender Modou Manneh was also recognised for his performances and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after a consistent and influential season at the back.

The achievements highlight the growing presence of Gambian players in international football, with the group playing a key role in Manila Digger FC’s successful campaign in the Philippines’ top division.
