Two Gambians residing in Brikama were on Thursday remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison as they failed to fulfil bail conditions granted by the court.
Ebrima Jammeh and Modou Lamin Bojang of Brikama, West Coast Region, yesterday appeared before Magistrate M.S. Dem at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on four criminal charges.
The two accused persons were jointly charged on counts one and two, while the first accused, Ebrima Jammeh, faced separate charges on counts three and four.
Sergeant 7232 E. Fofana appeared on behalf of the Inspector General of Police. Both accused persons appeared in court without legal representation.
On count one, the accused persons were charged with going armed in public, contrary to Section 72 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025 Laws of The Gambia. Prosecutors alleged that on 18 May 2026, at Brikama in the West Coast Region, the two men were unlawfully found with an arm in public, causing terror.

Count two alleged affray, contrary to Section 75 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. The prosecution claimed the two men unlawfully fought in public on the same date and place.
On count three, Ebrima Jammeh was separately charged with assaulting a police officer, contrary to Section 199 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. Prosecutors alleged that he assaulted Police Officer Ousman Jarju while the officer was executing his lawful duties.
Count four alleged threatening violence, contrary to Section 77 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. The prosecution stated that Jammeh threatened to kill Ousman Jarju of Wullinkama Village with a knife.
The charges were read and interpreted to the accused persons in Mandinka by the court interpreter, and both confirmed understanding them.
Responding to the first count, the first accused said he was not armed, while the second accused claimed the knife belonged to the first accused. On the affray charge, the accused persons stated that the fight occurred inside a compound and not in a public place. Magistrate Dem noted that a compound is considered a private place.
The court entered pleas of not guilty on all counts.
The prosecution applied for an adjournment to call witnesses and did not object to bail.
Magistrate Dem granted bail to the accused persons. Ebrima Jammeh was granted bail in the sum of D10,000 with two Gambian sureties above 45 years, while Modou Lamin Bojang was granted bail in the sum of D50,000 with one Gambian surety above 30 years.
The matter was adjourned to 15th June 2026.
However, the accused persons failed to fulfil their bail conditions and were later remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison.
