A Gambian man has been sentenced to 16 years and eight months in prison in Scotland after being convicted over the fatal stabbing of his wife, Ndata Bobb, who later died from her injuries.
The court delivered its judgment on Tuesday, bringing to a close a case that has drawn attention to the issue of domestic violence in homes and communities.
According to court proceedings, Momodou Bobb was found guilty in connection with the stabbing incident that resulted in the death of his wife.
The ruling was welcomed by Gambian Councillor in the United Kingdom, Sainey Barrow Mbaye, who extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Councillor Mbaye described the death of Ndata Bobb as a tragic and devastating loss, saying no family should have to endure such pain and no child should be exposed to such trauma.
She said the loss of “a beautiful, humble, and peaceful mother, sister, and daughter” was deeply regrettable.
Mbaye also highlighted the impact of the incident on the couple’s four children, noting that they had lost both parents and the stability of their home in a single incident.
She urged individuals to avoid violence during disputes, encouraging dialogue, restraint, and peaceful conflict resolution.
The councillor further advised that before resorting to violence, individuals should consider the long-term consequences, particularly the impact on children who may be left traumatised and without parental care.
She emphasized that abuse should never be associated with love and that violence must not be normalised in any society.
Mbaye added that leaving abusive situations helps protect individuals and also safeguards children, teaching daughters the importance of dignity and safety while reinforcing to sons that violence against women is unacceptable.
