The Gambia women’s U-20 national team were held to a 1–1 draw by Liberia on Sunday in the ongoing WAFU-A Women’s U-20 Cup of Nations, in an evenly contested match that kept both sides in contention in the regional tournament.
The Young Queens made a strong start and took the lead in the 25th minute through Ellen Gomez, who finished calmly to put Gambia ahead.
The match was played at high intensity, with both teams competing strongly across the pitch and creating chances in an entertaining encounter.
Gambia maintained defensive organisation and looked dangerous on the counterattack, but were unable to extend their lead despite several opportunities.
Liberia improved after the break and eventually found the equaliser in the second half to restore parity and secure a share of the points.
Despite the draw, Gambia produced encouraging performances, particularly from forward Nyima Sanneh, whose pace and attacking presence stood out. She was named Player of the Match for her display.
The result keeps the Young Queens in contention as they continue their campaign in the regional competition.
