Barrow Receives Senegal’s New Chief of Defence Staff at State House

By Hadday Touray

President Adama Barrow on Thursday received Admiral Oumar Wade, the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff of the Republic of Senegal, at the State House in Banjul.

The visit, described as Admiral Wade’s first official external engagement since assuming office, was aimed at strengthening the longstanding relations between The Gambia and Senegal.

President Barrow expressed appreciation for the choice of The Gambia as the admiral’s first destination abroad, describing it as a reflection of the strong bilateral ties between the two countries.

He stressed the importance of dialogue and regular consultations in deepening cooperation, given the historical and cultural bonds shared by the two neighbouring nations.

The Gambian leader urged both sides to continue promoting peaceful neighbourliness, commending progress made in addressing border-related issues, and calling for sustained commitment and openness.

In his remarks, Admiral Wade thanked the Gambian leader for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to peace, stability and cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal.

President Barrow also extended greetings to Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, reiterating his commitment to good neighbourly relations, and wished Admiral Wade success in his new role.
