Lower Nuimi and City Girls Share Spoils as GFF Women’s Second Division Relegation Battle Intensifies

By: Madi Seneghore

Lower Nuimi and City Girls played out a goalless draw at the Soma Mini Stadium in the final fixture of Week 17 of the Gambia Football Federation Women’s Second Division League, as both the promotion race and relegation battle continue to intensify.

The match was tightly contested from start to finish, with both sides showing discipline and determination despite failing to score. City Girls enjoyed extended spells of possession and attempted to dictate play through short passing movements, but they were repeatedly denied by a well-organised Lower Nuimi defence.

Lower Nuimi remained compact at the back and posed a threat on the counterattack, though they were unable to convert their chances. Their defensive organisation proved effective in frustrating City Girls, particularly in the final third where clear opportunities were limited.

Both teams created half-chances that could have decided the match, but wasteful finishing and resolute defending ensured the points were shared at full time. The result leaves both sides still firmly involved in the fight to avoid relegation as the season enters its decisive phase.

At the top of the standings, Future Bi continue to lead the 12-team table with 36 points, closely followed by Kintehs and Gambia Armed Forces, who are both on 35 points, keeping the title and promotion race tightly contested.

At the other end of the table, Mansa Wally remain bottom with six points. Lower Nuimi sit on 14 points, while Rakie have 15, Sallahs and City Girls each have 18, and Darboes are on 19 points, all still battling to secure their league status.
