The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) has held an engagement with executives of the Gambia Craft Market Federation and the Official Tourist Guides Association aimed at enhancing cooperation within the tourism sector.

The meeting, held on Wednesday at GTBoard headquarters in Kotu, provided a platform for dialogue among key stakeholders in the country’s tourism value chain.

Discussions focused on improving visitor experience, raising service standards, promoting authentic Gambian cultural products, and expanding nature-based tourism activities.

Speaking at the meeting, GTBoard Director General Ida Jeng Njie stressed the importance of professionalism, coordination and continuous capacity building in the sector.

She said craft vendors and tourist guides remain key actors in shaping visitors’ perceptions of The Gambia as a destination.

“Craft vendors and tourist guides are among the first points of contact for many visitors, making their contribution vital to the overall perception of our destination,” she said.

Stakeholders also raised concerns and shared perspectives on challenges affecting the sector, as well as opportunities for growth.

The engagement ended with a renewed commitment by all parties to strengthen collaboration and work towards improving The Gambia’s tourism experience.
