Presidential hopeful Musa Jammeh has outlined reform proposals for Gambian football governance, focusing on transparency, development, accountability and improved administration.
Jammeh, a former national team player who began his career at Saraba FC before representing The Gambia internationally, said his experience in football gives him practical understanding of the challenges facing the sport at all levels.
His proposals include grassroots development, financial transparency, infrastructure expansion and improved player welfare. He stressed the need to identify and develop talent nationwide and to invest in football facilities to strengthen competitiveness.
On governance, Jammeh pledged stronger accountability mechanisms and more transparent financial systems within football administration. He also cited his background in finance as relevant to improving oversight and resource management in the sector.
Reactions within the football community have been mixed. Some stakeholders have raised concerns about his limited administrative experience, while others say the focus on governance and financial management could address existing structural challenges. The electoral contest is expected to continue with emphasis on candidates’ proposals and experience.
