Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, Deputy Majority Leader of Gambian Parliament has been elected to the Executive Committee of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA).

Hon. Ceesay’s term runs from 2026–2027 in what is being viewed as a notable boost to the country’s parliamentary diplomacy and international profile.

His election took place during the 46th Annual Forum and 4th CAP-Oceans meeting of PGA held in Mexico City, which brought together lawmakers from 18 countries to discuss global priorities including democracy, human rights, and international cooperation.

Ceesay now joins a diverse Executive Committee made up of parliamentarians from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, tasked with guiding the organisation’s global legislative agenda.

The Committee is chaired by Syed Naveed Qamar, who was re-elected as President, alongside other members responsible for steering PGA’s strategic direction.

PGA Secretary-General Mónica Adame described the newly elected leadership as a broad, cross-party team that reflects the organisation’s global reach and its commitment to promoting democratic values and cooperation among parliaments.

For The Gambia, Ceesay’s election is expected to deepen the National Assembly’s engagement with international parliamentary networks, while also creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and the strengthening of legislative practices.

The Executive Committee plays a key role in shaping PGA’s priorities at a time when global cooperation and democratic resilience continue to be central to international governance discussions.

Ceesay’s appointment is widely seen as recognition of The Gambia’s growing participation in global parliamentary affairs and its efforts to contribute to international dialogue on governance and development.
