Brikama Magistrates’ Court has remanded one Omar Jallow following his appearance on charges of housebreaking and theft involving items valued at D16,450.00.
Jallow appeared before Magistrate M.S. Dem on Monday, 20 April 2026, where he faced two counts brought by the Inspector General of Police.
He was not represented by counsel during the proceedings.
Prosecuting officer, Sgt E. Jallow announced his appearance on behalf of the state. The charges were read in English and interpreted into Fula, the language the accused said he understood. Jallow pleaded not guilty to both counts.
According to the particulars of the first count, Jallow is alleged to have, on 6 April 2026 at Banyaka in the West Coast Region, broken into the house of one Haddy Bah with intent to commit a felony, namely stealing.
On the second count, the prosecution alleged that on the same date and place, the accused stole several items belonging to the complainant. These include a blue suitcase valued at D1,000, 20 pieces of textile cloth priced at D600 each, three packets of tea bags valued at D150 each, three plastic chairs valued at D800 each, a bottle of cooking oil worth D200, a bottle of body cream valued at D150, and a small fan with charger valued at D250. The total value of the items was put at D16, 450.00.
Following the plea, the prosecution applied for an adjournment to enable them to call witnesses. While acknowledging that the offence was bailable, Sgt Jallow objected to bail, citing on-going investigations.
The court was told that the accused allegedly informed police he did not act alone and mentioned a suspected accomplice who was currently at large.
The prosecution further stated that although the accused had indicated the whereabouts of the said person, the suspect could not be found upon police arrival, raising concerns that he may have been alerted.
The prosecution also informed the court that most of the stolen items have not yet been recovered, except for the suitcase and the plastic chairs currently in police custody.
Magistrate Dem granted the prosecution two weeks to continue their investigations and locate the alleged accomplice.
The accused was remanded in custody pending further proceedings, with the court indicating that a decision on bail would be considered at the next hearing.
The case was adjourned to 11 May 2026.
