The Rabat Court of Appeal has upheld prison sentences and fines handed down to 18 Senegalese supporters and one French national of Algerian origin for their involvement in crowd disturbances during the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
The incidents occurred on 18 January 2026 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat during the final between hosts Morocco and Senegal.
According to reports, tensions escalated late in the match following a controversial penalty decision awarded to Morocco, triggering unrest among sections of Senegalese supporters.
The disturbances reportedly included attempted pitch invasions, the throwing of objects onto the field, clashes with security personnel and acts of vandalism داخل the stadium.
At the time of the incident, Senegal was leading 1-0 before the situation deteriorated. The Confederation of African Football subsequently awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory by forfeit.
Following legal proceedings, the Rabat Court of Appeal confirmed the initial rulings, sentencing:
- Nine supporters to one year in prison and a fine of 5,000 Moroccan dirhams;
- Six supporters to six months in prison and a fine of 2,000 dirhams;
- Three supporters to three months in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams;
- The French national of Algerian origin to three months in prison and a fine of 1,000 dirhams.
Authorities said the measures were intended to uphold public order and deter violence at sporting events.
