The Brikama Magistrates’ Court has entered judgment in favour of a property owner in a civil suit over unpaid rent, ordering the tenant to vacate the premises and settle outstanding arrears.

The case, presided over by Magistrate Kanjura B. Sambou, was brought by Jabou Estate Agency, represented by Mamadi Jallow, against Momodou Saidou Jallow.

The plaintiff sought an eviction order, recovery of rent arrears amounting to D14,000 for two months, additional accrued rent if any before judgment, and administrative costs.

According to the particulars of claim, the disputed property is located along Coasta Road. The court heard that the defendant had defaulted on rent payments, prompting the agency to seek legal redress.

When the charges were read in English and interpreted into Wolof, the defendant confirmed that he understood the claims and admitted liability. Following this admission, the court proceeded to deliver its ruling without further contest.

In his judgment, Magistrate Sambou stated that the defendant’s acceptance of liability left no issue for trial, and therefore judgment was entered in favour of the plaintiff.

The court consequently ordered the defendant to vacate the premises within one month.

Additionally, he was directed to pay D14,000 in rent arrears covering two months, along with D1,500 as administrative costs.
