Two separate theft-related cases were heard on Monday before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, where the accused persons were convicted on their own guilty pleas and remanded at Mile II Central Prison pending mitigation and sentencing.

The cases were presided over by Principal Magistrate Sallah M’Bai.

In the first case, Bubacarr Ceesay and Alagie Sanneh were charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and theft, contrary to Sections 341(a) and 226 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.

Court documents stated that the duo allegedly conspired in April 2026 in Kololi to steal aluminium plates valued at D15,000 belonging to Banna Joiner.

The prosecution told the court that the stolen items were later sold to a scrap metal dealer, with the proceeds shared between the accused persons.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to their arrest.

When the charges were read, both accused persons pleaded guilty, and the court entered a plea of guilty on their behalf.

Prosecutor ASP Ahmed Touray applied for the exhibits to be tendered in evidence, a request which was granted without objection. The court admitted the aluminium plates as exhibits A1 and A2.

Magistrate M’Bai subsequently convicted the accused persons and ordered them remanded at Mile II Central Prison pending mitigation and sentencing. The case was adjourned to 20 April 2026.

In a separate case, Omar Sambou was also convicted after pleading guilty to housebreaking and stealing from a dwelling house, contrary to Sections 256(1) and 256(b) of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.

The court heard that Sambou allegedly broke into a residence in Kololi on 6 April 2026 and stole a Xiaomi flat-screen television valued at D68,000 belonging to Saika Sanyang.

Prosecution witness Sergeant S. Bah told the court that the accused scaled a fence to gain access to the house and was later apprehended by neighbours while attempting to flee.

He was taken to Kololi Police Station, cautioned, and charged.

The stolen television and remote control were later identified by the complainant. The court admitted the recovered items as exhibits A and A1.

Magistrate M’Bai convicted the accused on his own plea and also ordered him remanded at Mile II Central Prison pending mitigation and sentencing. The matter was adjourned to 30 April 2026.
