Ousainou Bojang and his sister, Amie Bojang, were re-arrested by paramilitary forces at the Mile 2 Prison gate as they were leaving for home, despite having been acquitted and discharged by the Banjul High Court on Monday.
The High Court, presided over by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, cleared the siblings of charges relating to the killing of two police officers and the wounding of another during the Sukuta-Jabang Traffic Light shooting. They had spent two years in Mile 2 Prison awaiting trial.
Family members and journalists at the prison gate witnessed the re-arrest on Tuesday afternoon, after the duo had been released by prison authorities. They were intercepted and taken to the Gambia Police Force headquarters in Banjul.
Modou Musa Sissawo, Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Police Force, confirmed the re-arrest to The Voice, but said he could not provide details on the reasons, as he was away from the office at the time. He stated he would update the media once he was in a position to provide further information.
Reports indicate that Ousainou and Amie Bojang were subsequently returned to Mile 2 Central Prison.
