Opposition parties under the banner of Coalition Building Project (CBP), have called on Gambians to register to vote ahead of the upcoming presidential election in December.

In a joint statement, the parties urged citizens who desire meaningful change to participate in the voter registration process, while also encouraging Gambians in the diaspora to motivate their relatives and friends at home to do the same.

The coalition of opposition parties which made the clarion call included: All People’s Party Sobeyaa (APP Sobeyaa), Gambia For All (GFA), National Unity Party (NUP), Tabax Rewmi, United Democratic Party (UDP) and Unite Movement for Change (UMC).

The coalition further provided an update on on-going discussions aimed at forming a united opposition front capable of contesting and winning the presidential election scheduled for 5th December 2026.

According to the statement, the talks are progressing in a cordial atmosphere marked by mutual respect and commitment to national interest. The parties note that significant progress has been made on several foundational issues following extensive consultations.

However, deliberations are continuing on key areas, including the framework for a shared government, which is expected to ensure inclusivity, fairness, stability, and accountability in a potential coalition administration.

The parties also indicate that discussions are underway on a reform-driven agenda, with consideration being given to a clearly defined five-year national development and reform programme.

On leadership, the statement said negotiations were on-going regarding the selection of a coalition flag-bearer through a democratic and transparent process.

The coalition emphasized that, in line with standard negotiation practices, “nothing is agreed until everything is agreed,” noting that no binding legal agreement has yet been reached.

The CBP described itself as an inclusive initiative and invited other opposition political parties, movements, and presidential aspirants to join the process by expressing interest via email.

It added that further details about the negotiations and participating stakeholders will be made available on a dedicated website expected to be launched in due course.

The coalition thanked the public for its patience, engagement, and support, reaffirming its commitment to working in good faith towards an outcome that serves the national interest.

The statement was jointly issued and signed by APP Sobeyaa, GFA, NUP, Tabax Rewmi, UDP, and UMC.
