The “Never Again” Network has called on all eligible Gambians to register to vote ahead of the December 2026 presidential elections, stressing that voter registration is the foundation of democratic participation.
In an open letter addressed to citizens, the Network described voting as a fundamental civic duty and urged Gambians to obtain their voter’s cards once registration begins.
“Democracy does not begin on polling day. It begins with voter registration,” the statement noted, emphasizing that participation in elections is impossible without prior registration.
The Network highlighted the importance of voting in shaping national development, noting that electoral choices influence key sectors such as the economy, employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure and security.
According to the group, citizens should elect leaders with the capacity and integrity to serve the country and advance the collective good.
Reflecting on the country’s political history, the statement recalled that Gambians had previously used the ballot to end authoritarian rule, underscoring the need to safeguard democratic gains through active and peaceful participation in the electoral process.
The Network also reminded citizens that the right to vote is reserved for those legally eligible under national laws, urging all Gambians aged 18 and above to register in line with regulations set by the Independent Electoral Commission.
It further called on communities across the country to encourage widespread participation, urging families, friends and neighbours to prioritise voter registration.
The appeal was extended to Gambians in the diaspora to support civic mobilisation efforts by encouraging relatives and communities at home to register and vote.
“Your vote is your power,” the statement concluded, calling on citizens to take responsibility for their political future by participating fully in the December 2026 elections.
