The European Union (EU) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government of The Gambia in its development initiatives. The announcement was made on 25 March 2026 during a high-level engagement coordinated through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.

The EU, a longstanding development partner of The Gambia, has contributed significantly to the country’s infrastructure, providing grants and subventions. The commitment was highlighted during an information seminar on the EU portfolio in The Gambia, which focused on areas aligned with the country’s national priorities, including democratic governance, sustainable growth, job creation, green resilience, migration management, and digital transformation.

Speaking at the event held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre in Bijilo, EU Ambassador to The Gambia, Immaculada Roca Cortes, described the EU as the largest donor in the country. She emphasized the organization’s reliability and alignment with the national development plan. “We are a stable and reliable partner to the Gambian government, working with national institutions to implement the national development plan sustainably,” she said.

On behalf of Finance Minister Seedy Kinteh, Permanent Secretary Mod AK Secka commended the EU’s long-standing support to The Gambia’s development agenda. He noted that EU interventions have led to landmark achievements, particularly in infrastructure and democratic reforms since the 2017 change of government. Secka also highlighted the EU’s continued support in critical areas, including security sector reforms, the defence sector, and human capital development
