A witness in the ongoing trial at the Banjul High Court on Tuesday testified that the accused in the alleged killing of Binta Bojang had shown erratic and dangerous behaviour in the days leading up to the incident in Tujereng Village.
Omar Bojang, a civil servant and brother of the deceased, told Justice Ebrima Jaiteh that he recognised the accused, Fatou Suwareh, as his niece and recalled events of 27 October 2024.
Representing the State was counsel F. Drammeh, while counsel F. Bondi appeared for the defence.
Omar Bojang told the court that he first received a call from his brother, Ansumana Fadera, reporting that the accused was acting abnormally. He said that upon visiting her compound, he observed unusual behaviour and advised that she be taken to hospital the following day.
He further testified that he later received reports that the accused had been seen running naked in a market and that she had attempted to harm herself on several occasions.
The witness said he arranged for her to be brought to his compound in an attempt to calm her down and later facilitated the transfer of about D4,000 through Lamin Bojang to support medical treatment, although no hospital visit took place.
According to him, another family member, Mariatou Bojang, believed the condition was spiritual and consulted a marabout, despite his insistence on medical care.
Omar Bojang also told the court that the accused allegedly attempted to jump into a well and that only the accused and the deceased were present in the compound at the time of the incident.
He said he later arrived at the scene and found Binta Bojang lying on her stomach with a head injury. He admitted striking the accused in shock before regaining composure.
The matter was reported to police, and the case has been adjourned to 28 April 2026 for continuation of hearing.
