By Dawda M. Jallow

A man accused of circulating a nude video on social media platforms has been convicted by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, Sait Jobe, faced charges relating to the circulation of a nude video involving Aram Jobe. The case was presided over by Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai.

Appearing for the prosecution, Assistant Commissioner of Police A. Colley, representing the Inspector General of Police, charged the accused with two counts: publication of obscene information in electronic form, contrary to Section 170(1) of the Information and Communication Act, and trafficking in obscene publication, contrary to Section 142(1)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Offences Act 2025 Laws of The Gambia.

According to the prosecution, on 3 March 2026, at Latrikunda German and other locations within the court’s jurisdiction, the accused willfully and unlawfully published a nude video of Aram Jobe via WhatsApp and Facebook, sharing it with multiple individuals in a manner calculated to cause embarrassment or damage her reputation.

On the second count, the prosecution alleged that Jobe circulated the same video without lawful authority, distributing it on social media platforms in a way capable of defaming or harming the victim.

When the charges were read and interpreted to him in Wolof, Jobe pleaded guilty.

Following the plea, ACP Colley applied under Section 191(a) and Section 35(3)(b) of the Criminal Offences Act, requesting compensation of D1 million for the victim.

In her ruling, Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai ordered that the accused be remanded at Mile II Central Prison pending sentencing. The matter was adjourned to 24 March 2026 for sentencing
