The criminal case involving the State and former Jungler Sanna Manjang Tuesday came up in court with the state filing a new amended bill of indictment and expanding the charges against him to six counts.

When the matter was called before Justice Sidi K. Jobarteh, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions E.R. Dugan appeared for the State alongside B. Badjie, while the accused, Sanna Manjang, was represented by defence counsel S.K. Jobe.

The new indictment outlines a series of alleged extrajudicial killings and acts of torture said to have been committed during his time as a member of the “Junglers” at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

According to the amended indictment, the first count charges Manjang with murder contrary to Section 187 of the Criminal Code. It is alleged that in 2006 at Kanilai, Manjang unlawfully caused the death of Kajali Jammeh, also known as “Le Cock”, by cutting his neck with a knife.

The second count also relates to murder, contrary to Section 187 of the Criminal Code.

Prosecutors allege that in 2006 at Kanilai, Manjang, with malice aforethought, unlawfully caused the death of Samba Wurry by stabbing him in the chest with a knife.

Under the third count, Manjang is charged with conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour contrary to Section 369 of the Criminal Code. It is alleged that in March 2006 at the NIA premises, while serving in the Gambia Armed Forces and as a member of a group known as the “Black Black” or “Junglers,” he conspired with others to cause bodily harm to Tamsir Jasseh.

The fourth count charges Manjang with assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to Section 228 of the Criminal Code.

Prosecutors allege that in March 2006 at the NIA premises, he unlawfully assaulted Tamsir Jasseh by beating and kicking him, causing severe injuries.

The fifth count relates to conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, also contrary to Section 369 of the Criminal Code.

It is alleged that in March 2006 at the NIA, Manjang conspired with others to cause bodily harm to Yahya M.S. Darboe, a military officer.

In the sixth count, Manjang is charged with assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to Section 228 of the Criminal Code. The indictment alleges that in March 2006 he unlawfully assaulted Yahya M.S. Darboe by beating him with sticks, pouring melted hot plastic on his body, and hoisting him in a tied sack, causing serious injuries and bleeding.

Meanwhile, defence counsel S.K. Jobe requested an adjournment to allow time to study the new indictment and advise his client. State counsel E.R. Dugan did not object to the request.

Justice Jobarteh subsequently adjourned the case to Friday, 13 March 2026, for plea taking and the testimony of the prosecution’s third witness (PW3) at 10 a.m.

The amended indictment lists eight witnesses expected to testify against Manjang. They include: Ensa Keita, Tamsir Jassey, Jally M.I. Senghore, SI Sowe, Yaya M.S. Darboe, Babou Janha, Lamin Federa and Mustapha Jammeh.
