NAM Badjie Calls for Dismissal of Justice Minister, Attorney General Over Jammeh Asset Sale

By Fatou Krubally

Hon. Bakary K. Badjie, National Assembly Member (NAM) for Foni Bintang Karanai, has called for the immediate dismissal of Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow following a parliamentary review of the sale of former President Yahya Jammeh’s assets.

Speaking during a parliamentary debate, Hon. Badjie criticized the handling of the sales, noting that vehicles and livestock were sold at prices significantly below market value—some vehicles went for D4,000 to D5,000 and livestock for D2,000 to D5,000. He said this raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability.

He accused those involved in the sales of misappropriation, referring to buyers as “thieves” and labeling the Minister of Justice as “the biggest of all thieves.”

Hon. Badjie emphasized that governance should be grounded in honesty, fairness, and service to the public rather than personal gain or revenge. “A nation cannot be built on revenge,” he said, urging lawmakers to adopt strong measures to ensure justice and restore public confidence.
