African football legends in recent years have consistently praised the impact of the CAF African Schools Football Championship, highlighting the innovative grassroots programme introduced by CAF as a key driver for the future of the game on the continent.
As the competition prepares to conclude its fourth season next month through the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals, the tournament continues to receive recognition for its unique approach of combining football development with education, giving young players across Africa an opportunity to grow both on and off the pitch.
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, who has served as an ambassador for the programme, previously emphasised the importance of balancing football ambitions with academic development for young players participating in the tournament.
“Education is the key. They should focus on education well. Of course, they have the talent, and it will follow later,” Gyan said while encouraging participants to prioritise their studies alongside their sporting dreams.
The platform created by CAF also impressed former TP Mazembe and DR Congo national football team goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba, who praised the level of talent emerging from the competition.
“I am quite excited with what I have seen. It speaks volumes about the growing standard of African football,” Kidiaba said.
Meanwhile, Ivorian football pioneer Clémentine Touré previously commended CAF for creating a platform that brings together young footballers from across the continent.
“I want to thank CAF for launching this youth football project, it ensures young footballers from all over Africa get the opportunity to compete,” she said.
With the latest edition set to reach its climax next month, the CAF African Schools Football Championship continues to embody the vision many African legends have long championed – developing the next generation of talent while strengthening the link between education and sport.
CAF will soon announce details of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals in due course.
